West Coast Maritime Week 2019

Activities on Tjärnö
mainly given i Swedish, but possible for non Swedish-speaking participants

Tjärnö Aquarium is open 5-9 August, 14.00–17.00. At 14.30 and 16.00 we give Live Presentation about, for instance, oysters, lobster, jelly fish or plankton. At 15.15 a film is shown in the auditorium. Entrance is free during West Coast Maritime Week.

Sea lab – theme activity during aquarium opening hours Monday 5 August
Become a marine scientist for a day. Learn how the sea works through experiments, documenting your observations, and get a prize just as all excellent scientists get.


Meet a scientist! – theme activity during aquarium opening hours Wednesday 7 August
Get an insight in what scientists do and what interesting topics they study in the sea. Ask questions, listen to short presentations by scientists at the field station.


Algae day – theme activity during aquarium opening hours Thursday 8 August
Try a underused resource in the heart of Swedish algae research. Look, feel, taste and learn! Exclusive tour of Algae house cultivation.

Diversity of the Sea Tuesday 6 August 14.30–17.00. Booking in advance.

Filming in the Kosterhavet Deep, Friday 9 August 09.00–12.00. From the research vessel Nereus we deploy a Remotely Operated Vehicle with video camera. We film life at 100 metres depth and show it in real-time on monitor on board. A guide explains what we see. In collaboration with Kosterhavet Marine National Park.
