Environmental work

Environmentally certified

Since 2010 both field stations at The Sven Lovén Centre for Marine Sciences are environmentally certified. Based on the environment targets for the University of Gothenburg we work with different activities, specific for our field stations, in purpose of reaching the goals.

Environmental Policy

All environmental activities at stations, departments and faculties strive against to follow the environmental policy in which all staff and students are requested to comply with the environmental policy, to prevent or reduce environmental impact and to take environmental considerations into all decisions. The head target is that the University of Gothenburg will be one of the leading universities in Europe in education and research within sustainable development and environmental sciences.

Environmental Handbooks

There are routines common for all departments concerning, for example, handling of chemicals and waste in order to decrease the risk of negative environmental impact. These routines are gathered in a common environmental handbook and you find it here.

For the environmental work at the field stations Kristineberg and Tjärnö there is also a need for special routines concerning ships, aquaria, sampling and foreign species for example. You find these here.

Environmental Reporting

Every year the environmental work is reported. You find the latest here:
Environmental Report for the Lovén Centre 2013 (in Swedish)

Environmental Audits

Every year there are both internal and external environmental audits performed at the university. The Lovén Centre is audited every third year. At the audits the activities at the field stations are reviewed from several different perspectives. Do we comply with environmental legislation? Do we comply with the environmental standard ISO 14001 requirements? Do we comply with our own routines and rules?

An environmental audit was last performed in 2012. You find the audit report here:

Environmental Coordination

Every department or unit has one or two environmental coordinators in the Faculty Environmental Council. The environmental coordinators work with the activities that ultimately aims at reaching the environmental goals. At the Lovén Centre Lars Ljungqvist and Ullika Lundgren participate in the council.
